Pie provenance. A discursive project investigating the unknowability of an individuals ingredients. Take the pie pictured above as an analogy — Growing up I often had this pie made for me to eat by my mother, it's a part of my cultural heritage, part of me. I know what goes into the pie, but know very little as to what goes into the ingredients of the pie. Who tended the cattle that provided the beef? Who harvested the peas and onions?
This draws attention to the vast web of connections that form an individuals experience and begins to approach the impossibility of stepping into another's shoes or communicating clearly another's condition of living. Both of which are key concerns of visual communication.
